RAW TRACK
2018

first race 7:33pm

This week’s Races
•   Round 1   Warm up Scratch
•   Round 2 Tom Cornish feature event
•   Round 1 lap Screamer
•   Round 4  Div 5 Scratch Race,  Div 4-2 Madi-Lead Div 1 Madison

•   Round 5 Combines +  RAW Crawl
Note: Point scoring rounds are in Blue.

Explain these races

1 lap Drag race- Riders draw lots to start in position 1-4 up the track. The riders start in a Time trial hold (No-Push) for whistle start. First one back wins. Easy

Madilead- The pace in this race is set by a Madison team (see Madison). The bunch follows the Madison team for ??laps until, with 5 laps remaining the Madison leaders take off leaving the bunch to sought out the winner in scratch race style finish. The Idea of this race is to allow the lower grades to experience following a Madison change (which is a key skill in learning to ride a madison). The pace of this race can often change with the experienced leaders putting in a few hard attacks to stir up the bunch.

Madison- A high speed, two person continuous race relay. Think of tag team wrestling meets track cycling - while one partner is racing the other is resting at the top of the track. This race is named after Madison Square Garden in New York where the event was first held. Two man teams contest the event, which is typically an endurance event. Only one rider from each team is allowed in the race at a given time, meaning that teams must take it in turn each lap (or more) to have a rider in the race. Changeovers are quite dangerous, but impressive to watch when done well - one rider circles around waiting for his teammate, who joins hands and imparts his momentum to the slower rider. At RAW Track we usually ride this on a scratch race format reference www.cyclingnews.com

Non Madison
•   Div 1 riders who are not riding the madison are invited to ride the Div 2 Madi-Lead
•   Whilst results will be recorded, only the top 4 div 2 riders will receive points towards the overall

RAW Crawl - There will be two graded races for the RAW Crawl. A whistle will blow to start the race. Riders have 10 seconds to make their way on to the track; any rider not on the track by this time is eliminated.  Any rider who crosses the start line or comes off the track is eliminated. Any rider comes in contact with the track (foot down etc.) or another rider is eliminated. A second whistle will blow after 1 minute but before 2 minutes (random) this will indicate the start of the one lap race. You can work out the tactics from here.

RAW Track Rider Representing Australia
RAW Track rider Tom Cornish is going to the Junior World Track Championships 2018
This year RAW Track will donate $1 for every rider that rides this week.  By attending RAW Track on week 3 June 29 you will be supporting Tom’s aspirations at Jnr Worlds. Additionally we will be “Passing the Hat” to raise a small portion of the $9000 subsidised Levey CA impose for Worlds representation.   Of Course I will have a feature event to show off our Australian Junior Representative current form in spectacular fashion.

So to Support Tom Cornish you can:
1.   Be there and Race (RAW will donate $1 per racing rider)
2.   Bring an extra friend, we are hoping to have 100 riders.
3.   Bring an extra couple of $$...to put into the Hat
4.    Share this post

Again in 2018- No series prize for winners of Div 5
•   Div 5 was introduced to be a stepping stone to riding in a higher grad. In the past, some riders have not progressed to a higher grade because they were highly ranked for the point series. Even though they had progressed in speed and ability.
•   Riders will continue to score points in Div 5 and can take them up to Div 4 (as per RAW Track Constitution)
•   As in previous years Trophies are still awarded to the top place getters, along with the season DVD, however they receive no money or tickets for the prize pool.

Should I go up a grade?
• At RAW you will be never be told what grade you have to ride.
• However your peers may politely suggest you change grades.
• Added to this, I may offer some advice, in an attempt to pre-empt your peers.
• In the history of RAW, the “choose your own” grade policy has only been seriously rorted on three occasions, are you interested in being the fourth?
