There were a whole host of reasons to ignore the alarm this morning and not make the trek to Calga for the NSW March ATTA event. It was raining heavily the night before; your bike gets covered in road filth the inevitable potholes rear their heads and that black line straight up the centre of your back is no good for the café after the event. But if setting a time trial PB features on your list of things to do then these rainy days are precisely what you want to break that record. The answer as to why this is the case is in the same league as why whales beach themselves, why we drive on parkways and park on driveways, what do you call that groove under your nose and most importantly why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets. One could argue that with a low-pressure system high humidity and high temperature the air density is less or that the water on the ground reduces rolling resistance or the cooling moist air that enters into the fire in your belly is like rocket fuel. Regardless the people who braved the conditions today were rewarded with some quick times. There were some good rides from the men with Marcus Culey and Christopher Miller going under the hour for the 43km course and Andrew East and Matt Rozyn doing some good times for the 25km course but the ride of the day belonged to Phoebe Fear who broke Lynne Clarke's 43km course record by 18 seconds in a time of 1:08:59.
Huge congratulations to everyone who rode today and see you all next month.
