Week 5 Bring it!

RAW TRACK Newsletter 2011 sponsored by:

www.Bicisport.com.au

This week’s Races
•   Round 1   warm up Scratch
•   Round 2  No Race this week (wheel-races every 2nd week)
•   Round 3  ½ field sprints (half your grade (max 12) over 5 laps)
•   Round 4  Mystery Lapper (bell @ 1 ½ to go)
•   Round 5  Round 5  Combines + CNSW Time Blaster  8:48 for $200

Explain these races
Half Field 5 lap scratch/sprint.  Your Division will be split into two heats. So if there are 18 riders in div 2 there will be two heats each containing 9 riders. However the maximum in a field is 12 riders, so if we have more than 24 sign on in any division we will actually have 3 heats.  The race is run under standard scratch race rules. At only 1.25km in length this race is considered more like a sprint than a scratch race.  Here is a video, but please do not emulate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaW_2E_bPU0

Mystery- This is a standard scratch race however the number of laps is predetermined by the organiser and concealed. The riders are given a bell with 1 lap to go. (Tonight this will happen at 1.5 laps)

Big thanks to those who supported the Fund Raiser?
•   We raised over $1000 for Tim and Jackson
•   It was brought to my attention that despite the riders levy being around $7000 this is only a % of the actual costs. The significant support of Cycling Australia, AIS and the Commonwealth Games Association is as always greatly appreciated.

Should I go up a grade?
•   At RAW you will be never be told what grade you have to ride.
•   However your peers may politely suggest you change grades.
•   Added to this, I may offer some advice, in an attempt to pre-empt your peers.
•   Division 5 over the past weeks has been anything but the slowest grade making it very difficult for the true Div 5 riders to get a respectable race.
•   In the history of RAW, the “choose your own” grade policy has only been seriously rorted on three occasions, are you interested in being the fourth?

Canteen @ the DGV
•   Our good friends from Bankstown Sports Cycling  club will again be running a canteen this Friday
•   They provide a range of foods and drinks and well worth supporting.
•   To allow for a prompt pack up please order you food before the last race of the night.

Wednesday training @ the DGV
•   Our good friends from Bankstown Sports Cycling  club will again be running track training this Wednesday.
•   This is a great opportunity to advance your track skills or just learn some.
•   Training starts at 6pm for the beginners and after 7pm there is a 160 lapper above the blue.

Again in 2011- No series prize for winners of Div 5
•   Div 5 was introduced to be a stepping stone to riding in a higher grade
•   In the past, some riders have not progressed to a higher grade because they were highly ranked for the point series. Even though they had progressed in speed and ability.
•   To return Div 5 to its intended purpose and encourage riders to step up, there will be no series prize for Div 5 in 2010
•   Riders will continue to score points in Div 5 and can take them up to Div 4 (as per RAW Track Constitution)
•   As with 2010 Trophies are still awarded to the top place getters, along with the season DVD, however they receive no money or tickets for the prize pool.

6 month Licence available
•   The Cycling Australia 6 month licences are available from July 1
•   If you wish to join ATTA-nsw, they have a representative at RAW track that can assist you.
•   ATTA-nsw offer a subsidised rate for joining and will have forms next to the sign on table.
