RAW TRACK
2019

first race 7:30pm

This week’s Program
• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 Junior Worlds Demonstration (John and Rohan)
• Round 3 Keirin
• Round 4  Endurance Motorpace
• Round 5 Combines + CIRCULUS Time Blaster 8:45 for $100

Explain these races
Kierin- The keirin is a motorpaced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional keirin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half three laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage. reference www.cyclingnews.com

Motorpace- A derny motorbike paces the riders from the start at 45 km/h for the first few laps. The Derny rider will up the pace to a steady 48km/h. During this time, riders will rotate positions completing a max of one lap behind the derny. With about four laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and a standard scratch race starts. This event is intended to be an endurance race, with the pace of the derny ensuring fatigue has set in by the time it swings off.

RAW Track Riders Representing Australia
RAW Track riders John Trovas and Rohan Hayden-Smith are going to the Junior World Track Championships 2019
This year RAW Track will donate $1 for every rider that rides this week.  By attending RAW Track on week 2 July 05 you will be supporting their aspirations at Jnr Worlds. Additionally we will be “Passing the Hat” to raise a small portion of funds.  Of Course I will have a feature event to show off our Australian Junior Representative current form in spectacular fashion.

The RAW Junior Worlds fund raiser.
•   Over the past 15 years we have sent off our RAW junior world riders in style. Raising thousands of dollars in financial support.
•   In those years junior national representatives have always been hit with a significant Levey (usually around $8000)
•   In 2018 Cycling Australia changed its model and now pays for the majority of the financial burden.
•   John Trovas and Rohan Hayden Smith have been selected to represent their country in Frankfurt, Germany for the 2019 World championships in August.
•   Although the majority of the fees are covered there are still some significant overheads
•   The RAW Junior worlds Support night has become a tradition and showcases our young talent.
•   Instead of targeting $1000 we will still show our support but with a target of a few hundred dollars.

2018 Junior world representative Tom Cornish will be at RAW showing his support

So to Support John and Rohan you can:
1.   Be there and Race (RAW will donate $1 per racing rider)
2.   Bring an extra friend, we are hoping to have 100 riders.
3.   Bring an extra couple of $$...to put into the Hat
4.    Share this post
