Division 5

I have put a lot of thought into this Division. Last year in 2018 the Cervelo Masters Series only had 4 Grades and it was clear from the speed of the lowest grade that it ruled out a number of master riders from even competing.
I am very happy to announce that 2019 will indeed have a Division 5. However, I am really keen on this, the lowest grade to be exactly that "the lowest grade". It has always concerned me that at the Cervelo Masters Series, with its significant prizes up for grabs, there has been some significant sandbagging to claim the swag. Whilst this has always been an understandable component of our sport it is detrimental to the lowest grade riders, who just want to be able to compete.

The 2019 division 5 will carry only 2 prizes per round which will be stipulated below. Any rider who has been graded for Div 5 who wishes to compete in Div 4 can do so no questions asked. In fact, you will most likely be congratulated at sign on.

Division 5 Prizes
Round 1, 2 and 3
Only 2 prizes

Prize #1
•   The first Women across the line will also be recognised on the podium and win a prize.
Prize # 2
•   Your age minus your place!

Ok so we need some explanation
•   The winner of the Prize will be the highest number after you subtract your place from your age according to CNSW entry data.
•   In the event of equal points, the highest placed rider will take precedents.
•   All Div 5 women will receive a 15point addition.

I don’t want a bunch of 20 riders sprinting for every place.
•   Much like bunch time is used to prevent this in tours.
•   If a group exceeds 10 riders all riders after 10 will receive equal placing (i.e. bunch time)
•   A bunch will be determined as: any rider in contact at the beginning of the sprint.

Series leader jersey?  Yes
•   Will be the leading rider on accumulated (prize #2) points

The Podium Presentation
•   Top 3 across the line + First women (prize#1) + age -place (prize #2)
•   Minimum 3 potentially 5 on the podium

I sincerely hope that this information is received without prejudice and in the manner/reasoning intended,
Paul
